GEYER STYLE CUSTOM FRENCH HORNS

                                                                                                              Lukas Horns started in the spring of 2014 when I decided to see if I could build a horn for myself to my exact specifications. I had been working on Yamaha conversions, installing better leadpipes, replacing entire bell sections, customizing flares, replacing braces, cutting bells,  and making other modifications and improvements since 2013. I felt I had accumulated enough experience to attempt building a horn. One thing led to another and now we have a shop! My main considerations in building a horn were sound and feel. Since high schooI days I have been drawn to the Chicago sound and that’s what I have always wanted in a horn. Ultimately, through a twist of fate, I would move from Romania to Chicago and have a chance to study and live there for 11 years before moving to Memphis. While in Chicago, I was lucky enough to have my teacher, Jon Boen, let me borrow his backup horn, a beautiful Geyer instrument. I played that horn for almost two years and ever since I have been trying to find, with no success, a horn with the same feel and sound.






 

 Geyer horns are directly linked and identified with the famous Chicago horn sound and are now the choice of many professional players in the United States. Why make a horn when there are so many options on the market these days, you might ask? There are a few reasons behind this decision, but the most important ones are  AVAILABILITY and PERSONAL PREFERENCE. Because special attention is given to custom built horns, there are only a limited number of high quality instruments available. Building an instrument to resemble what the customer desires based on THEIR sound concept is a priority for our shop. We are currently offering two models very similar in sound with small personal distinctions and traits.  The horns have a beautiful sound and feel clear and responsive with smooth slurs yet easy to push and make them sizzle if needed in loud dynamics while maintaining the same tonal quality in all ranges, making them suitable for chamber music, solo and orchestral playing.
